Step 1 of 6

Step 1: Ingredients
Gather the ingredients needed for this recipe:
• Food Coloring (Blue, Purple, Pink)
• Melting Chocolate Morsels
• Powdered Sugar
• Skewers
• Strawberries
Note
• Use any fruit you want for this recipe!
• If you only have chocolate chips, hang tight - they'll be extra instructions for you too!
• Toothpicks can be used for skewers.
Step 2 of 6

Step 2: Wash
• Slice off the calyx (leafy part) off each strawberry.
• Rinse them off.
• Then, dry them with a towel. This will help the chocolate stick on more smoothly!
Note
Our solar system is made up of all the stars we see at night, the Sun, all the planets, and everything bound to it by gravitational pull. Did you know our solar system is one of five known solar systems in the entire Milky Way galaxy?
Step 3 of 6

Step 3: Melt
• Set about 1/4 of your melting chips aside.
• Pour some melting chips in a microwave safe container.
• Melt the chocolate.
• Then, stir in some extra unmelted chocolate until smooth.
• Add food coloring and stir it around with a skewer.
Note
If you're using Chocolate Chips:
Add 1/4 cup water to a saucepan and cover bring to a boil. Then lower the heat and add chocolate (save 1/4 of your chocolate) to the water. Stir constantly until melted. Add reserved 1/4 chocolate and stir until that melts too.
Step 4 of 6

Step 4: Dip
• Slide one strawberry onto a skewer.
• Dip and twist it around in the chocolate.
• Notice the beautiful swirls and connections of color.
Note
• The swirls we've replicated are based off the colors we see in the Milky Way. Typically, there are reds, blues, and purples. Stars of all different colors, shapes, and sizes exist in different galaxy regions.
Step 5 of 6

Step 5: Dunk
• Slide your freshly dunked berry down the skewer and add another.
• Dunk it in a different chocolate or repeat step 4!
Let's Talk
Exploring Spacecraft
The first spacecraft to explore the outer planets was Voyager 1. It left in 1977 and finally reached the interstellar space 35 years later in August of 2012. Voyager 1 was the first to pass Jupiter and Saturn. Remember the mnemonic device: "My Very Excellent Mother Just Served Us Noodles"? Try to guess the order of the planets in our solar system!
Step 6 of 6

Step 6: Enjoy!
• Lay your skewers on parchment paper and give them a bit of time to sit.
• Then, enjoy!
• These will last a few days in an airtight container in the fridge. Or, you could freeze them for a frozen blast to sugar space on another day!
